If by now you haven't heard about the Kings of Comedy, just where have you been? For several summers Steve Harvey, Cedric The Entertainer, DL Hughley and Bernie Mac were all the rage across the country, racking up such impressive box office receipts that they are now the most successful comedy tour ever. They had folks shelling out cash and rolling in the aisles. That success spawned an equally popular film documenting the concert tour directed by Spike Lee.

So we knew it was just a matter of time before the sisters of slapstick and satire would step out and take center stage to declare their own royal lineage.

On the concert tour women like Sheryl Underwood, Adele Givens, Myra J, Sommore, Monique and others have had folks forking over cash to get their funny bone tickled. For years they have been in the trenches doing the journeywoman's work but they too had dreams of a similar payday like the brothers.

When the Kings of Comedy launched their tour Sommore showed her business savvy when she quickly patented the name "Queens of Comedy." She approached various promoters and tried to produce her own tour. But it couldn't get off the ground because they couldn't get sponsorship support. She then approached Lathan, the guy responsible for the mega successful "Kings of Comedy Tour." He initially declined saying he really didn't have the time and didn't think it was the right time for the women's project. Ultimately he did relent and the sisters have been doing it for themselves ever since.

The effort led to an ongoing tour, and earlier this year a Showtime "Queens of Comedy" special and CD featuring Miss Laura, Monique, Adele Givens and Sommore. "We're really excited about a Queens of Comedy tour because it has been a long time coming," Sommore has said in an interview. "I'm just glad it finally got off the ground and we're all able to get up there and do our th ing."

On Saturday, April 7, 2001, at 8 p.m. Lathan Entertainment brings the "Queens of Comedy Tour" to Constitution Hall. For ticket and information callTicketMaster at 202-432-SEAT.
