present the 2nd African American Women Writers and Readers Conference, April
27-29, 2001 at the University of the District of Columbia, 4600 Connecticut
Avenue, N.W.
The African American Women's Writers and Readers Conference provides an
interactive forum for aspiring writers and poets, book club members, avid
readers, and students to gather with bestselling authors and publishing
industry professionals, to celebrate the richness of African-American women's
literature.
Some of the nation's acclaimed authors and veteran publishing executives will
join emerging writers, poets and book lovers to network, exchange ideas and
share their literary expertise during an array of panels, writing workshops,
and special events. Workshop facilitators and panel discussants will include:
Paule Marshall, Carolivia Herron, Patrice Gaines, Beverley East, Julianne
Malveaux, Sandra Jackson Opoku and many more.
On Saturday, April 28 at 3 p.m., Metro Connection's publisher and editor,
Avonie Brown, will join Denise Barnes and Adrienne Washington of the
Washington Times and Gwendolyn Osborne of Black Issues Book Review for a
panel discussion on "Writing for Advocacy."
